What is Kundalini Yoga

“Kundalini” is an ancient Sanskrit word that literally means “coiled snake.” In early Eastern religion (long before Buddhism and Hinduism) it was believed that each individual possessed a divine energy at the base of the spine. This energy was thought to be the sacred energy of creation. This energy is something we are born with, but we must make an effort to “uncoil the snake,” thereby putting us in direct contact with the divine.

To achieve this, Kundalini Yoga classes include breathing exercises, chanting, meditation as well as physical exercises (named KRIYA). The KRIYA and meditation are different in each class and picked by the teacher to work on a specific area of the body, the mind or based on the group energy. Unlike other yoga classes, each exercise does not necessarily 'flow' to the next but consists in the repetition of a specific movement for a certain amount of time so that you can work through your mental blocks and overcome barreers.

Aurelia's area of expertise as a yoga teacher is divine alignment so her classes often focus on postures to ensure each student can find within their body the perfect balance, alignment and can learn to lead from the heart, during and after class.
